Rhododendron Rhapsody

This original oil on board painting of rhododendrons in full bloom during Rhododendron Week in the National Botanic Gardens in Kilmacuuragh,  Co. Wicklow is a vivid and enchanting work of art that captures the essence of this beautiful springtime event. The painting is a rich tapestry of colour, texture, and natural beauty.

Irish artist Niki Purcell has skillfully used a heavily textured technique to give depth and dimension to the scene. The texture of the board is still visible through the thick layers of oil paint, adding an earthy, rustic quality to the piece.  The focal point of the painting is the avenue lined with majestic rhododendron bushes, their blossoms in full and exuberant bloom.
