Roses from Tralee - by Maria Dowling
This painting by Irish artist Maria Dowling features the Rose Garden in Tralee Town Park, Co. Kerry. On summer evenings in the park, the air is full with the fragrance of roses. (one of the most extensive collections in Ireland) St John's Church which overlooks the Rose Garden is in the background of the painting. Roses are synonymous with Tralee both due to the song The Rose of Tralee and the international festival of the same name which takes place each August in Tralee, Co. Kerry
Every element in this oil painting exudes attention to detail. Maria Dowling's skill is evident in the intricate depiction of the roses' foliage. The dark, glossy leaves provide a rich backdrop that enhances the vibrancy of the orange blossoms. The veins on the leaves are meticulously painted, and their various shades of green provide a contrast that complements the fiery hues of the roses. Brushstrokes are varied, some being feathery and delicate to capture the finesse of petals, while others are bolder and more pronounced to emphasize the leaves' surfaces.
Overall "Roses from Tralee" transports viewers to Tralee Town Park where the gentle rustling of leaves and the delicate fragrance of roses can almost be sensed, making it a truly immersive visual experience.
