Jaanika Talts is both as a person and an artist quite frankly, enigmatic. She pours paint, emotions, thoughts and moods onto canvas. Weaving, blending and layering, the results are always spectacular. The viewer finds oneself suddenly in a garden where one wants only to gently creep behind the flowers to see what lies beyond, or watching a sunset ablaze with azure, orange, cerise and dashes of teal, a city skyline at night or staring into one of her dark thought provoking abstract works with hints of mythological worlds and places long gone. Born in Estonia, Jaanika is the daughter of Jaan Talts the former Estonian Weightlifter who competed for the Soviet Union in the 1972 Olympic Games where he won Gold. However having lived in both Estonia and Sweden and weary of the long winters, Jaanika moved to Ireland in 2004 and started painting in her spare time. Interest in her paintings grew and demand for her works became such that she decided to take a leap of faith and become a full time artist. Now a resident artist in The Gaslamp Gallery and with two upcoming exhibitions - one in Bordeaux France and the other here in May. In January 2018, she was commissioned by BT Ireland to produce a work that was presented to President Michael D Higgins.
